I’m dusting off my summer hats, digging out my older, more festival-worn Birks, lining up my beads, stocking up on film, curating playlists, and just getting in the mood for the single most fun weekend in Regina!
This is the weekend I look forward to the most, every year. People are smiling and singing, music is playing, you’re out in the fresh air, with friends – new and old, no judgments are made. Yep. It’s pretty great. Don’t just go and expect the will of the universe to provide though (actually, you could probably get away with that, at this event)! Take these as handy tips to aid you in your delightful time.
Those who remember previous years’ Survival Guides (or those who don’t: 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012), know that traditionally, I’ve focused on the settlers. This one is for the nomads, so there are two categories below…
The Regina Cathedral Arts Festival Street Fair has come and gone which now means one thing… IT’S SUMMER!!
Well, not “officially” I guess, but we at OpMan have always used the RCAFSF as the unofficial start to all the fun summer activities that Regina has to offer.
First up… Regina Multicultural’s MOSAIC 2015 with your favorite multi-ethnic gnome riding a manatee! Tonight, Chris and Cory pay homage with their third annual Mosaic special, playing music based on the 20 pavilions Reginans will be enjoying in this weekend’s activities.
Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina or online at www.cjtr.ca. And don’t forget Saturday is the CJTR garage sale, from 9-5. See you there, bright and early!
It’s there… if you look closely… once you see it, you’ll never UNSEE it…
I’ll just throw this out there – we all dodged a bullet this week. If you listen and believe weather reports, we should all be snowed under and NOTHING should be functioning. But let’s face it… as Saskatchewanians, we’d just dig our way out and what would halt all activity in somewhere like Toronto would be just flakes beneath our boots.
That being said… I prefer less snow in my city and more on my ski-hills any time of the year. Especially now.
Tune in tonight though, as Chris and Cory play music SO HOT, it’s guaranteed** to melt all snow within a block of your radio. 91.3 FM in Regina!
**ok, not REALLY a guarantee… so send your hate mail to Chris…
With Chris out sick or fighting zombies or something, Cory fires it up at Regina Community Radio with some pop stuff, rock stuff, punk stuff and maybe even a soulful rendition of Ol’ Man River. Or maybe not.
The flu is a bitch… Being all “flu-y”… making people sick. Well, making Chris sick anyways. Cory will be venturing into unknown territory and delivering a solo episode of Operation Manatee tonight, from 11:00 to midnight.
What could happen? What could go wrong?? Famous last words or brash sensationalist statements to make you listen? Hey, if it works for Fox News it HAS to work for us, right?
Chris tells a short story about how his Juno 2013 experience went. It includes a bit of whining, but also mentions Corb Lund, Sarah Slean, Rose Cousins, Royal Wood, Jim Cuddy, Amelia Curran and more.
So… I wasn’t going to do any Juno stuff. Largely, I’ve never really cared about pop music contests and that’s only increased with time. If the junos weren’t in Regina this past weekend, I would have done what I do about them every year: not a god damned thing.
However, since it’s the first time the Junos have been Regina, in its 43-year history, I figured I’d better take what opportunity I can get.
JunoFest includes all events and performances outside of the main awards show. That’s all I had interest in attending.
