Cory and Chris take things a little more laid-back this week, laying off the ultra-heavy stuff – and the acid.
If we’d thought this out a little better, we could have had a theme prepared for you tonight, but as it turns out, that’s hard to do once, let alone back-to-back. In case you missed last week’s Mosaic special, be sure to check out the podcast.
A two-hour special on #OpMan taking you around the world in time for #Mosaic2013 in #yqr. Everything from German dancehall/ska to Korean black metal and even Pow Wow dubstep! Fuck, we’re cool!
Ladies and Gentlemanatees… Boys and Girls… We present… a super special episode of Operation Manatee tonight!
As mentioned last week, tonight Chris and Cory are going to pay homage to the annual Mosaic festival in Regina with music from around the world. We’ve spent the week scouring for music associated with the pavilions on display as part of Mosaic 2013 and will serve up a tasting of how the world rocks, rolls or just makes noise depending on your point of view. In fact, it’s SOOOO special that we’re even starting early this week and going for TWO FULL HOURS!!
That’s right! Tune in tonight at 10:00 PM and listen along as we present Man-saic!
It’s that time of year again! Mosaic 2013 is about to kick off in Regina in JUST OVER A WEEK!
And to celebrate the Mosaic tradition, Operation Manatee is going to go ALL WORLD ON YOUR ASSES!!! And ears… mostly your ears… The idea, if successful, is to play a band or two from as many pavilions that will be showcased as part of the Mosaic festival. There are 21 pavilions, so we might have to extend it over two shows but we’re going to give you a cultural taste of music from around the world. Scottish metal? First nations dance music? Yep… things you’ll hear by tuning into the Operation Manatee Mosaic special!

Chris pines for summer and the music that tends to accompany it while Cory whips out some cook new tracks.
Like everyone else in the Regina area, I lept towards the barbecue at the first sign of warmth (-15 counts as warm, you know) this season. Now that it’s more or less perpetually warm enough to be standing out by the grill, and one decent explosion and new barbecue purchase later, I’ve been spending a lot of time by the grill – homemade margarita or whatever in-hand. I don’t know about you, but barbecuing just begs for music. Personally, I (Chris) will barbecue to anything from reggae or afrobeat to dubstep or hip hop, but I think most people in our neck of the woods would generally agree that barbecuing is best done with a little bit of heavy rock nearby. Something about meat and distorted guitars. I don’t know. It’s just great.
Even though we’re not on the air until 11:00 PM, don’t let that disuade you from firing up that grill and turning on some tunes. Time of day has little bearing on delicious grilled food or when you choose to listen to your favourite program on CJTR. Warm up that grill at 10:45 and start cooking with Operation Manatee from 11:00 to midnight.
Earlier this year I blogged about albums I was looking forward to and Magneta Lane was on my list, albeit only plans for an EP. Well, it’s been out for a while, it’s TOTALLY FANTASTIC and something everyone should buy and enjoy multiple times. But here’s their new video for the lead single “Burn”. Again, the track is really good but the video has such a positive message for young girls. Enjoy and comment below on your feelings.
Cory and Chris visit some favourites from the ’90s and from today and find a surprising amount of time to badmouth Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins.
It’s Tuesday again, and naturally, that means you are wet (salivating, you dog) with excitement at this week’s show! Well, we’re excited too! Or… at least, Chris is. Chris assumes Cory is as well. Chris is excited because he thinks he can pull off a mix of old and new favourites for tonight.
Writing about myself in 3rd person is weird. Hell with it.
I found myself listening to some old favourites since last week and really really want to play some of them. I don’t want to get stuck in ’90s rock hell, though, so I dug out some of my recent favs as well. I’ve gathered an alarming amount of great new music in downloaded form (legally, because ripping off musicians is f’d up) over the past couple of years, and it’s about time I started getting serious about playing it on OpMan. Cory has mentioned too that he’d like to dive more into newer stuff.
With that in mind and with the rest of the day to think about it, we’ll see what we can come up with. In the end, you can be sure that at least you’ll be able to listen to some really good stuff!
Stay up with us from 11:00 to midnight tonight. We’re looking forward to it.
In this show, Cory and Chris explore new territory. Cory is winging it, which makes him uncomfortable. Chris refuses to wear pants, which also makes Cory uncomfortable. They even played a couple of vinyl records. We’re not sure what vinyl is, but it’s heavy and Chris seems to like it.
First of all, thanks to Chris for the really nice post on Friday!
Second of all, yes… the inevitable has happened. The ball has become chained, the noose has become tightened… um, the goose has been cooked…? However else you want to say it, I am now hitched… I figure the mother of my daughter, the co-signor to all my loans and debts should also become my wife… the Sith to my Jedi (maybe… somedays…)
The point? I’ve been REALLY busy for the last 4-5 days and I’m not sure what kind of music I’ll manage to throw together for your listening enjoyment tonight. Come, tune in tonight at 11:00 pm and see just how scattered we can REALLY be!
If you haven’t been invited to the wedding, it’s probably because he doesn’t like you. You already know the Twitter handle to use to scorn him. You should also listen to blisteringly loud punk and metal instead of crashing the wedding!
With Chris out sick or fighting zombies or something, Cory fires it up at Regina Community Radio with some pop stuff, rock stuff, punk stuff and maybe even a soulful rendition of Ol’ Man River. Or maybe not.
The flu is a bitch… Being all “flu-y”… making people sick. Well, making Chris sick anyways. Cory will be venturing into unknown territory and delivering a solo episode of Operation Manatee tonight, from 11:00 to midnight.
What could happen? What could go wrong?? Famous last words or brash sensationalist statements to make you listen? Hey, if it works for Fox News it HAS to work for us, right?
This week, Cory and Chris talk a bit about and play tracks related to the 2013 Junos in Regina. They also manage to include a Nine Inch Nails cover by Devo.
With the Junos recently passed, we figured it might be nice to give an appropriate nod to the long-time Canadian award and music series. After fighting over which Beebs tune is the best, we pared down a few Juno-related favs that we think you’ll enjoy. We also agreed on a few ground rules including the following:
1. No Beebs tune is better than another.
2. No Beebs tune should be played on OpMan.
3. No Operation Manatee host will be able to stop the other from playing Beebs if he is away.
It wont all be about that, though. There will be a strong collection of the usual fun things. Kind of like that CD you have – you know the one – that fell behind your CD shelf and has been housing a family of spiders for the last 8 years, and you forgot it existed, but when you found it you were all like, “HOLY CRAP! I remember this! This is the best CD I ever owned! I need to listen to this RIGHT NOW or my head will explode!”
Stuff like that.
Tune in tonight from 11:00 to midnight or we will broadcast NUDE! Wait…… no.
