Tape One To Armenia #13

Happy New Year, manatees!

Cory’s out tonight, so you’ve got me for an hour, starting at 11:00 PM. I’ve just recently completed (slapped together) 2018’s Operation Manatee Music Prize Long List, so you can likely expect a brief review of that, along with a spattering of other underground goodies.

So, pour yourself something nice, put on those headphones / crank up the speakers, and join me for this week’s musical escapade into the darkness.

  1. Mocky – Space Strut
  2. Noname feat. Adam Ness – Prayer Song
  3. Son Lux – Yesterday’s Wake
  4. Lonnie Holley – I Woke Up In A Fucked Up America
  5. Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois – Night MXCMPV1 P74
  6. Jean-Michel Blais – blind
  7. Wolf Willow – Me And The Moon
  8. Charlotte Day Wilson – Falling Apart
  9. Rafiq Bhatia – Before Our Eyes

Life has a way of making you postpone things you like doing, then Christmas came. Ah well, better late than never?

Because life’s been a little extra crazy this year, I didn’t get around to paring down the long list as much as I would have liked. As usual, I re-listened to all the albums/EPs I thought were half decent, keeping off the ones that just weren’t good enough, but I just didn’t have time for a final edit, and write-up for each album.

So this year, I’m keeping it pretty simple, because the long list is long, and it’s already late. This year, it’s just the list: no album covers, no write-ups, just a big, alphabetized list. Sorry.

To make up for it, I still plan on writing up the top five albums in full regalia, within the next week or so.

Per tradition,

Previous lists, for reference:
2017-long | 2017-top 5
2016-long | 2016-top 5
2015-long | 2015-top 5

Some rules to make it to this list:

  • Must be sonically interesting
  • No singles except full album-length/concept tracks; can be EPs
  • No compilations; can be solo artists, bands, collabs

And now… the 2018 Operation Manatee Music Prize Long List:

Operation Manatee #258 – Merry Metal Christmas

We had a special idea planned for next week, while everyone else was going to be carolling and ho-ho-ho’ing, we wanted to rip it up and play some great heavy songs. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the recording schedule worked out just right… … So we’re going to DO IT TONIGHT! Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina to trash your seasonal music and just enjoy a loud, headbanging good time. Continue reading “Operation Manatee #258 – Merry Metal Christmas”

Operation Manatee #256 – Who Survived

Dec 4 will go down in infamy! Remember, remember the Fourth of December when power was gone and heat wouldn’t blow…

To be honest, there was a chunk of time during the day we didn’t even know if the show would be aired. But I’m sure a lot of folk could say that about whatever activities they were planning as well. But thanks to the fantastic efforts of some great repairmen and women, we all get to hang out and listen to us say silly things on the radio.. oh, and play music.

Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina and listen to show that almost wasn’t!

Operation Manatee #254 – Still Not Quite Right

Who would have thought that not having a regular schedule would still make one so busy?

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks since we last joined our listeners, but it’s hard to describe just how the time has been used. There’s been a little of this and a little of that… some sleeping… but the one constant would be some good music.

Join us at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina as we get back to our regularly scheduled programming, with anything but regular music.
