With all due respect to Christmas, THIS is the most wonderful time of the year!
The sun is shining when you go to work and the temperature outside isn’t life-threateningly low. In fact, the sidewalks are clearing and there’s water dripping from everywhere. Soon, there might even be some green plants within view.
Even though it’s technically still winter, it’s a wonderful spring week! Come join in the fun tonight at 11:00 pm as we play some spring shanties to get you flinging around the room. 91.3 FM in Regina or online at www.cjtr.ca.

Cory joined community radio as a way to fight off a scary report he once read about a person’s developing tastes in music. In short, the study found that once you hit your early 30’s, your taste in music is cemented and you resist anything new. Scared by this, he made it a personal mission to continue to keep looking for new songs and artists that he could appreciate.
Taking an opportunity since Chris is out of town for the evening, Cory opened up a request for some of the listener’s favorites. Music is best shared among friends! Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina to hear what kinds of songs were suggested.
It’s hard to tell if anyone else is keeping track, but it seems like winter just shows up later and later each year. We’re teased around the holiday, but once the joy and mirth of the season has passed, we get buckled down and snowed under… with winds and cold. It can be a real bummer.
But we have just the cure for the hohums and the doldrums. Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina or online at www.cjtr.ca and listen to some great songs and some good company.

Someone must have reminded Mother Nature it was winter still because the last few days have been pretty darn frosty.
What do you think is worse; is it a dry, freezing cold? Is it the wind that brutalizes the prairies? Is the seeping chill of a wet BC cold even worse? Either way, let’s not complain when it gets warm again.
But we can all agree that community radio always makes it hot. So tune in tonight at 11:00 pm in Regina on 91.3 FM or online at www.cjtr.ca.

Here we are, 2019 – We made it!
Granted, you can say that about every year now. It really seems like we’re in uncharted territory now. With all the fears around the Y2K bug and numerous doomsday prognosticators, this show should have been a wrap YEARS ago now.
Plus, humans are doing everything in their power to really speed that up with no signs of stopping.
So let’s enjoy every year we can and do what we always do to pass the time and have some fun. 11:00 pm tonight we have the first official Operation Manatee of 2019 heading your way. Tune in and join the fun of community powered radio!

Life has a way of making you postpone things you like doing, then Christmas came. Ah well, better late than never?
Because life’s been a little extra crazy this year, I didn’t get around to paring down the long list as much as I would have liked. As usual, I re-listened to all the albums/EPs I thought were half decent, keeping off the ones that just weren’t good enough, but I just didn’t have time for a final edit, and write-up for each album.
So this year, I’m keeping it pretty simple, because the long list is long, and it’s already late. This year, it’s just the list: no album covers, no write-ups, just a big, alphabetized list. Sorry.
To make up for it, I still plan on writing up the top five albums in full regalia, within the next week or so.
Previous lists, for reference:
2017-long | 2017-top 5
2016-long | 2016-top 5
2015-long | 2015-top 5
Some rules to make it to this list:
- Must be sonically interesting
- No singles except full album-length/concept tracks; can be EPs
- No compilations; can be solo artists, bands, collabs
And now… the 2018 Operation Manatee Music Prize Long List: Continue reading “OPERATION MANATEE MUSIC PRIZE 2018: THE LONG LIST”
We had a special idea planned for next week, while everyone else was going to be carolling and ho-ho-ho’ing, we wanted to rip it up and play some great heavy songs. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the recording schedule worked out just right… … So we’re going to DO IT TONIGHT! Tune in at 11:00 pm on 91.3 FM in Regina to trash your seasonal music and just enjoy a loud, headbanging good time. Continue reading “Operation Manatee #258 – Merry Metal Christmas”
